JOB TITLE: Application Software Developer

DESCRIPTION:
Texada Labs Inc. is an incubator of several high-tech companies located in Burnaby and is affiliated with NYCE Networks. We are currently looking for an Application Software Developer to be based at our office in Burnaby, BC. This Software Developer will be responsible for developing scripts for our XBMC platform. Web programmers with transferable skills are encouraged to apply.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Skinning for XBMC.
  • Work closely and in collaboration with the CTO and Senior Engineers to implement new features.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to design and implement the required back end support for the front end features.
  • Troubleshoot audio/video UI issues between the front end and the back end.
  • Write XBMC plug-ins and scripts.
  • Develop and execute SQA regression testing of various XBMC plug-ins and add-ons


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The successful candidate will possess:
  • Experience with Linux
  • Good working knowledge of Perl or Python.
  • Solid Skinning experience (HTML, XML, JS, CSS)
  • Prior development experience with Boxee, Plex, or iConsole is an asset
  • Experience with creating scrapers
  • Prior experience with developing for Skype, LIRC, MPlayer is an asset
  • Experience with MVC or other proven GUI methodologies.
  • An innate understanding of how to effectively and efficiently articulate complex technical issues to the rest of the R&D team is a must.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • BSc. in Computer Science or better.
  • Flexibility to adjust workload and priorities, fast learner of new technologies


 

JOB TITLE: IT Operations Leader

DESCRIPTION:
Texada Labs Inc. is an incubator of several high-tech companies located in Burnaby and is affiliated with NYCE Networks. We are currently looking for a Information Technology Operations Leader to be based at our office in Burnaby, BC. The IT Operations Leader will be responsible for IT operations and solutions and ensure system availability through seamless IT processes and ongoing support. This is position provides hands on service to users and maintains the performance targets of the systems through regular monitoring and tuning activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the IT Help Desk: diagnose, document and resolve technical hardware and software issues, incident management, create and enforce corporate help desk procedures.
  • Install, configure and support VPN, remote sites, Cisco 1600 series routers, managed/unmanaged switches, firewalls and evaluate/recommend third-party tools.
  • Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, managing host security, file permissions, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
  • Plan and implement multi-file system backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Configure and manage Windows, Linux and Mac workstations, Mac servers and wireless routers.
  • Plan, configure, and implement wired and wireless network layouts.
  • Work on an ever growing list of interesting and challenging IT projects as directed by the CTO.
  • Champion process improvement initiatives.
  • Work directly with outside IT contractors on as-needs-be basis.


QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Diploma from BCIT’s CISA or better
  • Industry certifications (MCSE and/or Cisco CCNP) would an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English, must be able to articulate a variety of IT issues.
  • Experience with at least 2 different distributions of Linux, deployed in a large scalable clustered environment with many open source applications.
  • Mac server management experience.
  • Experience with at least 3 different email platforms.
  • Solid working knowledge of LAMP servers & technologies.
  • Good working knowledge of Perl /shell scripting, PHP, and Python.
  • Solid technical understanding of virtualization design: VMware, and VirtualBox.
  • Experience with hardware and software procurement and managing vendor relationships.
  • Experience with programming Cisco 1600 series routers and Dlink managed switches.
  • Experience with configuring video conferencing systems.
  • Strong organizational / project management skills.
  • Flexibility to adjust workload and priorities, fast learner of new technologies
